Our little boy is getting so big! Some things he is doing at this stage:
Reaching out: Your babys hands are mostly open now — ready to reach out to the world. In the early days of your baby's life, grabbing was mostly automatic and instinctual and he couldn't let go if he wanted to. Although he can't really grab objects just yet, he can hold things placed in his hands. And, once he wraps her hands around something, he might not let go so easily. He'll also begin to try and bat at objects, so keep potentially dangerous objects far from your little one's reach. This means not holding hot liquids or sharp objects while you're holding him. We are definitely seeing this. He grabs my hair whenever he gets the opportunity to and I have to pry his little chubby fingers apart to make him let go. He has also discovered his playyard mat and loves to bat at the objects he can reach. He is quite the wiggle worm so even if he doesnt mean to he usually ends up hitting one of the toys that hang from it.
Learnings Begins Now: You may notice short periods of time when your newborn is quiet and alert. This is prime time for learning: Your baby's brain will grow about 5 centimeters during his first three months! Use these calm intervals to get better acquainted with your baby — talk to him, sing to him, describe the pictures on the walls. He may not be able to add to your conversation just yet, but he's learning nonetheless.New textures for his hands to feel and new sights and sounds (all in moderation) are all learning opportunities. Even bath time becomes a laboratory for understanding life.
Eyes can track objects:With both eyes now able to follow things consistently and well, your baby can track a moving object much better, something he may have been able to do for only brief periods since birth.The stores are packed with developmental toys, but you'll do just as well with everyday objects. Pass a rattle or a bright plastic ladle horizontally in front of him. Then try moving it up and down. This should attract your baby's attention, though he probably won't be able to smoothly follow things vertically for another three months and diagonally for another six months.You can also play eyes-to-eyes by moving very close to his face and slowly nodding your head from side to side. Often his eyes will lock onto yours.
Easton is definitely makeing eye contact a lot more. He will follow us with his eyes or if he hears my voice and someone else is holding him he will look for me. He smiles when he hears our voices all the time! He stares at random things...even when we arent quite sure what is so interesting or funny about the ceiling LOL! I have sang to him a few nights when he was fussy and it truly did calm him down. He is still wishy washy about his pacifier so that only works about 50% of the time. He is starting to make cooing noises and realize that he can scream and make all sorts of funny sounds like blowing bubbles with his spit. Its so fun to watch how interactive he is with us now days. He loves to pat my back when im holding him over my shoulder, or he strokes my arm or chest while Im feeding him or cradling him. My parents laugh bc they say I used to do the same thing when I was an infant. As Im rubbing lil E's back he is rubbing mine...its the best feeling in the world. His neck is so strong and he puts weight on his legs if you hold him up so his feet are on the ground. He might be small but he is definitely no wussy :)
Brian and I had our first official date night on Saturday. It was much needed and overdue. We went to Kona. It was the first time I had ridden in the front seat next to Brian since we were on our way to Methodist Hospital to have Easton. It was definitely weird being someplace without him, but it was nice to have some cocktails, sushi, and talk without interuption for a few hours. My parents came over to watch him so we werent nervous about leaving him at all. They see him numerous times a week and my mom has watched him before for me. They loved being able to have Easton time without Brian and I there. My mom did tummy time with him and tried to get him familiar with how to roll over :) My dad thought our dog was way more needy than Easton was the whole night!!! Im glad we got our date night in. Holidays are here already so we will be so busy for the next month with things almost every weekend, and after I go back to work it will be very hard to get me to want to leave him since I wont have all day with him anymore so we definitely timed it right by doing it last weekend.
November 13th, 2011 Easton Charles Kalasek was baptised at St.Andrews United Methodist Church. It was a very special day for us as parents! Baptism is a symbol of God's love that washes away our sins and gives us new life. It was a very blessed event and Easton did so good. He didnt cry at all when our husband and wife Pastors held him, blessed him, sprinkled water over him, and then carried him around the stage and presented him to the congregation. We were very proud parents!!!!
